What is a vasectomy?

Vasectomy is the most effective form of sterilisation for men. It involves tying off or cutting the vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the penis.

The procedure is usually quick (about 20 minutes) and is done without the need for a general anaesthetic. Recovery time is minimal (most men return to work or normal activity within days), and surgical complications are rare.

Typically, there is no change in sexual function or sex drive after a vasectomy, but it’s important to talk with your doctor about any concerns you might have before having the operation done.
